Can I get a show of hands that you think you are eating your own toothbrush.

You might answer immediacy, no.

Then how about I told you this.

Your toothbrush is one of many everyday items made of plastic.

And that plastic has surged in the past 50 years. From 15 million tons in 1964 to 311 million in 2014, and might ends up to 612 million tons in 2036.

Billions of toothbrush are thrown away every year. But less than 14% of plastics are recycled globally. And at least 8 million tons of plastic enters our oceans every year, which equals to one garbage truck per minute.

And now, more than 5 trillion pieces of plastic are in our oceans, weighing 269,000 tons, the same as 3,585 blue whales.

And that, when those plastic has been eaten by the food that you are eating, such as fish, you could be ingesting up to 11,000 pieces of micro plastic each year and the toxins that come with them.

And yes, when they break down to nano plastic, they can even cross the tissue cell membrane and enter a fish cell, decreased reproductive capacity and reduced viability, those can all occurred just by throwing away a piece of plastic.

Don’t wait until the red alert is calling, and pushing us to do something.

Until that time, there is already too late for us to regret and change something.

You might say that we are powerless to change the whole world, but there must be a niche that we can fit in and truly do something.

From stop litter your trash to picking others trash, we can always make a difference and we can alway make our world a better place.
